An automatic watch (also called a self-winding watch) is a mechanical watch, typically with a balance wheel escapement, whose mainspring is wound by the motion of the wearer's arm, instead of having to be wound manually every day. Whereas a quartz watch is powered by electricity, a mechanical watch is powered by a mainspring which must be rewound for the watch to keep time.

5It's a beautiful watch  Oct 10, 2008
I bought this as a gift for my son, he is very happy with this Seiko, good price

4JARANDA  Aug 14, 2008
I shopped for a month both on line and in large Department stores before I decided to buy from Amazon. I paid for the fast shipping rate. I was surprised to recieve the watch the next day, less than 24 hours. I like the watch it looks great. This makes my sixth watch for my Seiko collection. The only problem with this watch is the band is too short. I am now looking for extra links to add, so I can wear the watch.

4Seiko Men's Automatic Gold Tone watch  Apr 17, 2008
This is a good watch for its price, and it was delivered in time and in perfect condition.

We were looking for a water resistant automatic watch and the web info said that the watch is water resistant. However when we receive the watch, we discovered that it is resistant only to splashes and not for shower - it is not to be submerged in the water.

The wrist band was short - my husband has average size wrists, but we had to request additional links. I should admit, that the customer service was fast and supportive.

5Great automatic quality watch  Jan 07, 2008
I bought many watches over the years, and this one is great. Precise enough automatic movement, never have to rewind, battery doesn't lose power in extreme weather conditions, and very pleasant to look at. My previous Seiko watches are still working properly after many years, and I don't expect this model to be any different. Build quality is very good. Very happy with this purchase. Breitling is next.

5A true poor man's Rolex.  Aug 21, 2007
I bought my first Rolex in 1966 at the Anderson AFB Exchange in Guam. It was a beautiful stainless steel Oyster Perpetual (automatic movement) and I paid $125.00 for it. People could not believe a young sailor would pay that much for a watch. This was the heyday of the $10.00 Timex. About 10 years later I brought my first gold watch, an 18k Gold Rolex President, which I paid $3000.00 for. They retail now for over $30,000.00. I have had this gem for over 30 years now and it still keeps perfect time. This was also a mechanical watch with an automatic movement. My next 10 watches over the years were all of the Quartz movement variety. Only the last two still work, and after I bought my last Quartz watch earlier this year, I vowed it would be my last. I found out that Seiko has brought back some classically beautiful watches with the automatic movements. No batteries, no resistors, no winding. I am starting a collection of these very reasonably priced and dependable automatic watches. I wish that more watch companies would go back to these automatic movement watches.

I am very happy with this Seiko Gold Rolex Style watch. It is the closest thing to a genuine Rolex, is the most dependable, and priced perfectly.
